Amazonian sociobioeconomy: Two initiatives advancing the development of an economic model based on a thriving forest
By Alexandre Villela
After finishing the PhD in Wageningen, I returned to Brazil aiming at contributing to social and economic development—in connection with nature conservation—in the Amazon biome. Since then, there have been four visits of varying lengths to the region. In this talk, I will present initiatives at two distinct locations of the Amazon that advance the development of an economic model based on a thriving forest. This serves as background to discuss issues related to deforestation, and for us to talk about possible ways Europe may further its contribution to the conservation of that biome.
